Green signal given to six-day cycle trip for Move for Earth movement

Flagged off the Move for Earth movement in Jharkhand to celebrate and inspire climate action.
Ranchi, January 5, 2024: Smt. Mahua Maji, MP Rajya Sabha and Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, Head – Department of Research & Planning PhD, Six-day cycle trip in India, flagging off the Move for Earth movement. At Bapu Vatika, Morhabadi Ground, Ranchi. The cycle yatra, which started from Olihanthu in Khunti, reached Ranchi today and will cover a distance of about 500 kilometers in Jharkhand via Ranchi, Ormanjhi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Phusro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Madhupur, Devgarh, Jarmundi and will end in Dumka on January 9. 2024.
Nearly 100 cyclists joined the cycle march in Ranchi to inspire climate action and show their support. Along with this, many programs were organized in Ranchi involving youth, children and community people in collaboration with Manthan Yuva Sansthan and Cosmos Youth Club. Students of RTC Polytechnic conducted Single Use Plastic Campaign in their campus to make the students aware to stop using single use plastic and adopt the principle of Reject, Reduce and Reuse to use the resources efficiently. A free zone can be created. Along with this, exhibition on waste, painting competition, speech and quiz competition on the topic of environment and climate change were organized.
Vinay Jaju, Co-Founder, SwitchOn Foundation, said, “During my cycle journey I have been connecting with farmers, women and youth from the regions to address issues of sustainable agriculture, clean air, waste management and clean energy solutions. We are hosting a series of activities in cities, towns and villages across Jharkhand to build resilience with future-friendly skills, technologies and practices to mitigate the climate crisis facing our planet Earth.
Later at Ormanjhi, several activities were organized at RTC College, in collaboration with RTC Institute, JSV, Cosmos Youth Club, Urban Kheti, Shivaji Pratibha Vikas High School, where Shri Jaju along with fellow cyclists met the youth and encouraged them. Encouraged. Catalyst of change. A training program on solar water pump application and post installation maintenance was conducted to equip the students with the latest technology in clean energy. Training on Waste and Air Pollution was also conducted where students got information about the impact of air pollution and waste in our lives and how we can deal with it at individual level. The program concluded with some cultural programs and prize distribution.

The main objective of the 'Move for Earth' movement is to celebrate and inspire climate action with the aim of creating a smarter and brighter future for us, our children, our farmers and life on Earth. The entire movement will undertake a cycling journey of over 4,000 km across various states of Eastern India, involving farmers, youth, government, financiers, technologists and civil society organizations and addressing community-specific issues related to water, soil, energy and sanitation.
