Ranchi: Today, 9.01.24, Tuesday, the birth anniversary of the first teacher of modern India, Fatima Shaikh, was celebrated in the Mahi classes being run in collaboration with Jamaatul Iraqi in Iraqi Urdu Girls High School. On this auspicious occasion, the students who passed with good marks in the Pre-Board Mock Test 2024 being conducted by Mahi Classes were honored with prizes in which Divya Kumari for first class, Zikra Naseem for second class and Sania for third class. Parveen was honoured.
On this occasion, educationist Abdullah Kaifi, as the chief guest, said that what is the reason for the personality whom we have gathered today to remember? He kept the lamp of education burning in a difficult environment when education was not available to the common people. Fatima Shaikh was the strongest supporter and fellow teacher of Savitri Bai Phule's mission. Fatima Sheikh was born on 9 January 1831 in Pune, Maharashtra. Fatima Sheikh was an Indian teacher who was an associate of social reformers, Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. Fatima Shaikh was the sister of Mian Usman Shaikh, in whose house Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule lived after Phule's father threw the family out of the house because of their work for the upliftment of Dalits and women. She was one of the first Muslim women teachers in modern India and began educating Dalit children in school. Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, along with Fatima Shaikh, worked to spread education among Dalit communities.
Fatima Shaikh and Savitribai Phule started providing education to women and people from oppressed castes.
Usman Shaikh offered his house to the Phule couple and agreed to run a school in the premises. In 1848, a school was opened in the house of Osman Shaikh and his sister Fatima Shaikh. While in history, the credit for opening the first school is given to Jyotiba Phule, the name of the first teacher is given to Savitri Bai Phule and her colleague Fatima Shaikh.
Fatima Shaikh worked shoulder to shoulder with Savitribai Phule for the education of the most oppressed people of the society and especially women.
When the first school was opened in Budhwar Peth, Pune on 1 January 1848, Fatima Shaikh along with Savitribai also taught there. In order to provide education to the Dalits and deprived women, the first couple had to face a lot of obstacles and opposition and Fatima Shaikh was also not untouched by this impact.
Savitribai and Fatima Shaikh did not bow down to the opposition of the people. They insisted on women's education despite opposition and this partnership faced its opponents together. Savitri Bai had great faith in Fatima and she managed the school in her absence. We should ignite the darkness of our ignorance with her bright life.
On this occasion, Jamaatul Iraqeen's co-secretary Ghiyasuddin and English teacher Syed Ibrar Hasan also made their statements. Apart from this, Jamaatul Iraqeen's executive members Mohammad Osama, Mohammad Matiur Rehman and Mahi Classes' Sarwar Imam Khan, Mohammad Salahuddin and students were present.
